New Scouts
Join Cub Scouting today…
become part of the PACK!
Newtown Pack 70 invites Hawley School boys from 1st to 4th grade and Reed Intermediate boys in 5th grade to join Cub Scouting. No prior scouting experience required, you can join at any level.
How it works
Your children are grouped with friends in a Den that usually meets 2 or 3 times a month for activities and field trips all led by one or more of the parent volunteers. Once a month the Pack (all the Dens together) meets for awards and ceremonies. The pack usually meets in the Hawley School gym and it’s generally the last Monday of the month (see calendar).
During the year scouts can also participate in other BSA sponsored activities (see CT Yankee Council). In addition to the Pack meetings we have a Campout (family car camping in town), Picnic, Pine Wood Derby, Blue & Gold Dinner and lots of fun.
Registration
Please complete the registration form and return it and a check for $65 (made out to “Newtown Pack 70″) to:
Cub Scout Pack 70
P.O. Box 822
Newtown, CT 06470
Uniform
The boys wear a uniform to the meetings, which includes the long or short sleeved Cub Scout shirt (the short sleeved shirt is more versatile because the boys can put a long-sleeved t-shirt on under it in the winter), the Cub Scout belt and buckle, and the hat and neckerchief (and slide) for their rank:
- First grade: Tiger
- Second grade: Wolf
- Third grade: Bear
- Fourth grade: Webelos I
- Fifth grade: Webelos II*
Note: Because the Webelos II year is a transition year to Boy Scouts, the den may decide to wear the tan Boy Scout shirt instead of the blue Cub Scout shirt (a lot of boys will have outgrown their first shirt at this point, anyway). If so, they should still wear the Cub Scout versions of all of the other items.
The basic uniform and patches can be obtained from Rankin Sports in Danbury (203-743-7601), and they will sew them on for a small fee. When you purchase the uniform, let them know that you are part of Pack 70 and what Den number your son is in, so that you get the correct numerals.
Handbook
The boys’ handbook for their rank is included in the registration fee, so there’s no need to purchase it.
